Question of the Day: Day 197

Do you have friends, partners, or family members that "keep score" and always let you know when you "owe" something or when it is "your turn" to do something? Is it difficult to maintain a relationship with someone who does this?

Sure. I think that most of us have come in contact with score-keepers at one point or another.

It can be challenging to maintain a positive and healthy relationship with someone like this if I choose to let their issues become mine. If I choose to just be who I am and not take on their scores then I can get on with my own life and they can participate as much or as little as they want to.

I would feel sad if they chose to withdraw but I might also feel resentful if I am being compelled, guilted, or manipulated to do things.

Not many - less and less as time goes on. There are exceptiosn, mainly in business situations, but these seem to be growing more few over the last several years.

It becomes difficult only if they become obsessed with what is owed them to the point where they don't get things done that they "owe" other people - double standard - nope, I don't want any of that.

Guess I am fortunate in that way... no
major score keepers come to mind.
