Question of the Day: Day 124

What do you think about a person who belches or passes gas in a public place?
Is it something to be proud of or is it just rude? What should a person do?

Hmmm, my children laugh, say "excuse me.", and then forget about it, continuing on with what they were doing before the event. The "Excuse me." part is obviously learned behavior, but the rest, like the flatulance, seems natural.

I will learn from the example of children on this one.

If somebody farts in public, well, find an air-current - it'll be OK. Same thing with belching (whew, and some of THOSE can get potent!)

The only other scenario is - what if someone is doing it to intimidate or embarrass people? I highly recommend videotaping the perp - maybe, if you're lucky, you'll be able to reward them for their performance sometime, maybe years down the road - you never know...

I never thought it was funny. Public, meaning to me school and with any group of kids. But now I'm in "payback" mode, to MY kids. So there! I'm old now so I have an excuse!

If it happens sudeenly and the person is mortified then you know it wasn't on purpose and that's actually more embarassing than rude.

If a person is doing it on purpose to impact other people then, yes, it is rude.

I don't have a problem with guys being guys if they are out camping or off by themselves and nobody in that group is offended by it but PLEASE do not do it in mixed company!
