Question of the Day: Day 22

Does "evil" exist and if it does, what does it look like?

Yes, I believe that EVIL exists.

I also believe that, thanks to the Walt Disney corporation, we all think that we can recognize evil when we see it. Evil is supposed to wear a black hat, sneer and make ugly faces, or somehow just be visible and known. We always know who the bad guy is in the Disney movie. That's simply not the way that life is, though.

There is a huge difference between people who make mistakes, even if they might be terrible mistakes, but they have genuine remorse and strive to be better individuals and people who who have no remorse whatsoever and who prey upon the weak, the innocent, the naive.

EVIL looks like the soccer coach who molests young kids, or the con artist who systematically robs the elderly of their life savings and leave them destitute, the serial rapist, the huge conglomerate that destroys the land in order to greedily grab minerals and then leaves carcinogenic waste in the water for the local families to drink, and the foster parents who lock kids in closets and slowly starve them to death.

I could go on.

EVIL is not always visible as an atrocious act or series of acts. It is, at times, nearly invisible and disguised as the complacency of good people who do nothing when terrible things are happening and they know it and sit idly by.

EVIL absolutely exists.

I agree. Those who try to present themselves as being helpful to others when they are secretly causing harm represent the evilest of evil. I'd be lieing if I said I could ever respect them. Ever.

evil exists. and in condemnation we persist in making more evil.

Riding ourelves of evil is a valiant plan. But in the history of the planet we exist on there has always been evil. it balances out all the good the world has to offer. Make sure to keep evil at bay, give it NO energy. take away its privelages. will that end evil? that is still an uncertainty.

Evil looks like selfishness and greed. It smells like trash dumps and poison. It feels cold and damp. And it offers no light for positive growth. And it can disguise itself to appear friendly just to get its way. If we are wise, we can learn from evil, and make this world less hostile. And bring more harmony and peace.

I was stumped on this one yesterday. To an extent I still am. Evil exists, for sure. What does it look like? Well, it doesn't look like anything. Evil is the dark side of us, the urges, the temptations, the things we do when we shouldn't. We are all tainted by it. Some are more evil than others, but we will never get rid of it - evil is an integral part of who we are.

You can argue that we all do evil, but most of us do more good than evil. That misses the point (IMO)...you are evil if you do one thing wrong. Even if you have tirelessly fought for justice, given away all your posessions etc etc you are still tainted by that one act.

To see evil just look in a mirror.

I beleave that there is no "evil".

There are deamons and other things that I can't explain, but I truely beleave that it doesn't exist. I beleave in god and in the bible it says that there are witches and deamons and such things. I wouldn't say anyone in the world is evil or bad, but I would say that there choices can be.

well now thats crazy...because if we could see evil and destroy it like they do in movies or cartoons dont you think our world wouldnt be in the perdicament it is in today because osma benladen is evil to me why cant we vanish him away? its like a sterotype...evil does exsit but we couldnt tell the differnce even if it was staring dead in our face. thats just reailty as much as we love the fact of beliving that killing evil is so simple its not.
