Question of the Day: Day 200

Are you a better talker or a better listener?
What skills do you have that make you good at it?

I don't want to be better at either - they're both necessary skills.

I'm more predisposed to talking than listening, (damned ego, can't have anything nice!), but I try to keep it balanced, I know that I don't know much of anything, I just have ideas that seem to work.

The skills I have are knowledge of human languages, semantics, emotions, and the ability to listen and respond referrentially, as opposed to reactively (usually.)

I just try to be myself, and I encourage others to speak their truth, too.

It fluctuates... sometimes, I'm a great listener. When I am better at talking, it's usually because I believe that I've gone unheard, & damn it~ the other person is going to hear me "loud & clear".

My listening skills:

* Attentive
* Mirror back what I thought has been disclosed
* I will ask another to ellaborate
* Empathetic
* Maintain appropriate eye contact
* I really do try to be mindful Not to interrupt (sometimes difficult for me)
* Able to keep a confidence

My speaking skills:

* Ability to disclose a lot of information during a conversation
* Consise
* When I err, I will say so & add, "I need to rephrase that"
* Attempt to use the best choice of words to convey my message
* Direct
* Non-verbals cues tend to happen

~ However, when speaking... I sometimes fall waaaaaay short of conveying what it is that I actually want another to hear (especially in regard to an emotionally charged situation). I think that this happens more often with written word. Words can be so arbitrary. Certainly, I've room for improvement.
