Question of the Day: Day 166

Do you think that most people respect you? Do you respect yourself?

I hope so. I'm not worried about whether they like me or not, although I do want to be liked.
But respect is the cutting edge
of acceptance, and regardless of position or situation, I think we all want to be accepted for who we are. I know I do.
Self respect is a daily adjustment
for me, but I continue to work at it.

I think that people see me as i portray myself to them. And seeing as I am only human, that fluctuates from day to day in little ways, but mostly I treat others as i would like to be treated. And that does demand a certain amount of trust, not necissarily respect. Respect is earned, not given.

I dont really know if i respect myself or not. I had an epiphany last year during a retreat that i didnt have respect for myself at all. One of the reasons i realized that is I constantly have a weight problem. I dont respect myself enough to stop eating and get down to a weight that is comfortable and more active. I believe that is something i am going to have to work on everyday. Learning to love and honor myself more. Its a work in progress!

I think that most of the people who know me do respect me. I think that most respect is earned through giving respect. I have the most respect for people who are accepting of people who are different from them, tolerant, open-minded and truthful. Being respected and being liked, I think, are not necessarily the same. If everybody likes you, there's a good chance you're not being truthful and honest much of the time.

I do respect myself but am my own toughest crtic so there is much room for improvement.

I don't know if 'most' people respect me. I know some do. And, yes, I respect myself. Without self-respect I feel I would not be able to have a healthy relationship with anyone.

Yes, & Yes. It damages one soul deep to go against self... respect isn't about being self-rightous, it's about knowing who you are, owning what you do, living as you believe, & boundary setting.

Yes and yes.

I think that a person can be shown respect but not necessarily be given it if that makes sense.

If someone is being disrespectful to himself or herself then it may be very difficult for other people to have respect for them depending on what behaviors they are having.

I respect myself and I think that goes a long ways to helping other people respect me, too.

well to get respect you got to earn respect..we have all heard the saying. so yea some people respect me because i respect them. its not that i give respect because i want everyone to like me i just do so because i want to be treated with the same respect i give other people. i respect myself enough to not be concied about it but to know whats good for me and whats not.
