Question of the Day: Day 88

Do you think that a father should have the right to stop an abortion if he wants to raise his unborn child? Should the mother have the final say since it is her body? Should the unborn child have its own advocate?

Hard question...speaking as a potential (way off in the future) father, he should have a say. The mother should not necessarily have the final say if there is a voice of dissent. The courts are going to have to get involved in any arguments...but Im not sure if the child should have an advocate. It stikes me as wrong, but Im not entirely sure why.

I think that the woman should have the right to chose, but I think that the baby definately needs an advocate. I think abortion is murder because I think the the baby is alive and no one has the right to kill a baby. No one except God has the right to take life away. I do think though that, as a government, it will never be politically correct to tell people what they can not do. If you are talking about freedom and the principles that our country is based on, you have to think about the fact that we established this country to avoid persecution. Would I have an abortion, no way. I just have a hard time telling someone else that they can not.

I do beleive that the father should have a say so in it. The lady should also have a say so in it as well. I do not beleive in abortion at all though. I do not beleive that taking a life is ok. If you have sex you should know that you may have a baby. So that is there problem.

I am absolutely against abortions, no and's, if's, or but's about it. I think, personally, if the mother and father of the unborn child cannot agree to have an abortion, then the child should be born. If the woman was careless enough to get herself inpreginated, then she should not have the final say in having an abortion. The only other possible option is to have the unborn child, some how to be able to be taken out of the mother and developed in like a lab or something like that. If the problem gets really out of control, then the unborn child should have an advocate to speak on its behalf.

To those of you who are against abortion...what about the case of rape? I agree that it shouldn't happen, but better an abortionthan an abused child. I haven't clarified my views on this; i want to see what other people think.

Yes, he should.

An abortion is not about a woman's body - it's about a child's life.

What a great discussion we had in the classroom this morning! 45 minutes of teenagers talking about a hugely controversial subject and they were all respectful and considerate of one another!

Now for the hard part: my answer to this question.

Yes. No. Yes.

I think that it is important to state, up front, that my premise is that abortion is wrong. Even in cases of rape, as hard as that is for people, I believe that we do not punish the unborn child for the acts of the father. Yes, I understand that it will add to the trauma that the woman has already had but, again, we do not punish (kill) one life to save another one from a stressful situation.

I believe in adoption over abortion.

Always.

I think the mother is the one that will have to live with her choice for the rest of her life.

No man could ever understand the pain that a woman must go through to make such a choice.
