Question of the Day: Day 112
Do "looks" matter to you? Why or why not?
(function() { (function(){function b(g){this.t={};this.tick=function(h,m,f){var n=f!=void 0?f:(new Date).getTime();this.t[h]=[n,m];if(f==void 0)try{window.console.timeStamp("CSI/"+h)}catch(q){}};this.getStartTickTime=function(){return this.t.start[0]};this.tick("start",null,g)}var a;if(window.performance)var e=(a=window.performance.timing)&&a.responseStart;var p=e>0?new b(e):new b;window.jstiming={Timer:b,load:p};if(a){var c=a.navigationStart;c>0&&e>=c&&(window.jstiming.srt=e-c)}if(a){var d=window.jstiming.load; c>0&&e>=c&&(d.tick("_wtsrt",void 0,c),d.tick("wtsrt_","_wtsrt",e),d.tick("tbsd_","wtsrt_"))}try{a=null,window.chrome&&window.chrome.csi&&(a=Math.floor(window.chrome.csi().pageT),d&&c>0&&(d.tick("_tbnd",void 0,window.chrome.csi().startE),d.tick("tbnd_","_tbnd",c))),a==null&&window.gtbExternal&&(a=window.gtbExternal.pageT()),a==null&&window.external&&(a=window.external.pageT,d&&c>0&&(d.tick("_tbnd",void 0,window.external.startE),d.tick("tbnd_","_tbnd",c))),a&&(window.jstiming.pt=a)}catch(g){}})();window.tickAboveFold=function(b){var a=0;if(b.offsetParent){do a+=b.offsetTop;while(b=b.offsetParent)}b=a;b<=750&&window.jstiming.load.tick("aft")};var k=!1;function l(){k||(k=!0,window.jstiming.load.tick("firstScrollTime"))}window.addEventListener?window.addEventListener("scroll",l,!1):window.attachEvent("onscroll",l); })();
We are looking for answers to some hard questions as we dig deep inside and explore our own core values and how that guides not just our own lives but the very world that we live in. These questions will be asked to a group of high school students but we would also like to hear from the world at large. While we hope to keep this forum wide open we do reserve the right to delete responses that we find to be offensive or combative in nature. Thank you for participating with us.

Absolutely.
Unless you are freakishly brilliant (and maybe not even then) a good looking person frequently gets a job before a more qualified but less attractive one will. Good looking people also tend to be higher paid than unattractive people at the exact same jobs.
Dates and friends? Of course looks matter to the majority of people.
I think it is mostly foolishness. A good looking person can still be a jerk! I'd much rather be around people who are friendly, funny, and compassionate than anything else.
A truly GOOD person has a kind of beauty that if you don't see it then YOU are the one missing something and not them. That's the kind of beauty that makes a difference in my world.
I think that the culture today, people that are unattractive or over weight most likely won't get a job, date or even make friends. But if thier handsome,or pretty, they most likely would get a job,a date or make friends easlier than unattractive or over weight people. Looks don't matter to me. I rather be friends with unattractive or over weight who is respectful than be around some one who is pretty or handsome who is disrespectful.
yes i belive it does because people that are popular they are not friends with ugly geeks
Oh, yes... I know a man who hired his secretary because he found her to be UNattractive & he'd not be tempted! He confessed this to me.
On the flip side of that, I once dated a supervisor who confessed that he hired me because, as he put it, "I was a sight." - that was "a time ago" ... It may vary depending on the field one is in... ... but appearance, can get one in, or keep one out of the door.
Sometimes, a sad & shallow, world hu?
