Question of the Day: Day 103

What does ''charity" mean to you?
Why do you think that some people may be too proud to accept charity from others?

To me, charity means finding extra things in you life (love, time, energy, words, money, clothing, food, medicine - anything) that you can give to others, without any expectation, so they may be comforted. The observance of charity

Some people cannot accept charity because they feel they owe the giver something - little do they know that, by giving something away- again (because it's so important to know this part), without expectation - more comes to take the place of what was given - always!

Some people don't want charity because they cannot admit to others they have needs they themselves cannot meet - what they don't seem to want to realize is that anyone who cares, already knows.

Some people don't want to be comforted - they find happiness in their miser, some people cannot understand this, but I bet most people who read this can.

IMO, that scripture should read "It is better to give than to receive, but it is divine to do both."

Charity is both aid and a tool to make the donator feel good about themselves. I don't mean to make that sound bad. Many say that true charity expects no reward, but there is always at least some self-satisfaction derived from giving.

I think people get uncomfortable or even embarrassed because they feel like they have let someone else or themselves down. The aid just emphasizes the fact that more people know about it than just the recipient.

Charity means "giving" rather you give of youself or of your possessions. So stop and give a little to someone else.

I think that those who can not accept charity are perhaps resentful, rather than greatful toward those who are offering, and (for lack of a better word at the moment)- stubbornly proud.

Charity means love.

You give out of love: love for that person or love for humanity. You expect nothing in return because it is the giving itself that makes me feel good.

Pride, unfortunately, can cripple people. It causes people to build walls around themselves so that other people cannot see how vulnerable they may be as if it might make them look bad to others.

I wish people could see that it is truly in our hours of darkness that we have so much in common with other people and that would be the IDEAL time to reach out and NOT be so alone.

Put pride aside and accept charity for then you are accepting love and the world needs more love.
