Question of the Day: Day 11

Who is your hero? Why?

I would have to say Leonardo DiVinci, for his thirst for knowledge and art. He had his hands into everything, he refused to live "inside the box". We tend to define are selves and our worth by the mundane job functions we call our careers. DiVinci could not be classified in any simple terms because his interests and dabblings crossed over too many aspects of life. I wish to be like him.

My heroes are everyday people. They are the people who were dealt a life that is much more demanding than mine, people with handicaps and difficulties that I can't even imagine, and yet they make it through each day with a positive outlook that inspires me like nothing else.

My hero is Mahatma Gandhi (Gandhiji) - because he won an impossible war against an unbeatable empire by waging peace.

And because, with his dying breath, he expressed love and forgiveness to his murderer.

I would first of all have to say Helen Keller because she has always inspired me. She had this undying thrive to get something more out of life. I mean for a blind and death person to be able to accomplish all the things she did, is amazing. She learned how to speak to people in so many ways and never once did she give up on herself. There is so many people in this world that have a great childhood and up a piece of crap later on in life. When I was younger I use to really study about her. Thats when I made a decision that I was going to make something more out of my life. That I was going to be able to grow out of the"family curse" and make more out of my life. Because if someone can make a difference in so many peoples life, I think that I can make a difference in one person.

I would also say that I am my own hero. I am the only one in this world that can make a difference in my life. I am the one who can say whether I should let anything effect my life or not. Like with the dissapearance of my mother it was my choice to choose to put it behind me or not. I am the one who can stand up and make a difference in what I do and what revolves around me. I can deside what to say, to think, to read, to write because it's all my own decision.

I would also have to agree with Moak because there are so many people in this world who struggles with life more than I do. For a while I used to have alot of self pitty because of all the crap that I went through, but theres always someone in this world who has it worse than I do.

I have to say my hero(s) would have to be my family and friends. Through all the trouble I have caused they have stayed by my side. Those people are my hero, and I am trying the best I can to follow their example.

My heroes are the people who try to help the kids in need of help, such as the foster kids and grouphome kids such as my self. The peolpe who come out and try to help us change our lives. My teacher is one same as my lawyer and my brother trever smith. I want to say thanks to the people who help us.

I have several heros. One of them is Brian Greene, a physicist who researches string theory (cuting edge theoretcial physics) and has written books and done TV programs explaining his work. He is not just a very very clever bloke, but one who tries to bring his speciality in science to the attention of the wider public. We need more people who are prepared to do that in science.

My other heros are other people I know. I know people who have disabilities much worse than my simple learning disorder. My friend Luke has 1.5 legs (his words) and deals with it by dropping his leg down stairs as an April Fools. At my school there is a boy with cerebral palsy...who is always laughing, always seems cheerful. I just hope I can be so matter of fact and cheerful about my problems.

And of course Michelle, for caring so much.

My heroes are people who have done something good to themselves first and then to others. People cannot possibly be heroes to others if they don't take care of themselves first. Heroes have a responsibility to others that's why it's important that they set good examples. Heroes are not perfect persons. But they're best attribute is that they don't give up on doing good deeds.

I am my own hero. My parents are my heroes. My teachers, political leaders, church leaders, community leaders... they are my heroes too for they work on making me a better person.

Again, a hard question!

I think Sojourner Truth and Elizabeth Cady Stanton are heroes of mine.

They spoke up for women during a time when women didn't speak up.

There are so many people that admire. On any given day I might be wishing that I was more like Eleanor Roosevelt, Maya Angelou, Abraham Lincoln, or even Oprah Winfrey!

I have the greatest respect and admiration for my mother who worked hard and raised me as a single parent for so many years. My step-father is one of the hardest working and honest men that I have even known and, too, is a hero of mine.

Many of the people that I work with are nothing short of amazing in how much of themselves they pour out in order to make a difference in the life of children. And then there are the youth themselves. Their resilience in the face of some very tragic circumstances leaves me in tears in some days.

My colleague, whose son had a leg amputated from cancer, and his son, too, are sources of inspiration that touch my heart and make me want to be a better person.

My sweetheart who accepts me, flaws and all, is also my hero.

I can't name just one.

The only hero is myself. Because I am the only one who can save myself and can prevent these things from happening.

MY HERO IS MY SISTER. SHE IS MY HERO BECAUSE SHE STICKS BY ME NO MATTER WHAT AND SHE LOVES ME FOR ME.

I don't have just one hero. Any and everyone that has mastered the skills that I long to have, those are my heros'. I have values and skills that are ideal to me and anyone that has those skills is someone that I look up to and want to be more like.

Some people that I look up to are Robin B., Michelle, Paige, and anyone that continually tries to improve themselves.

My heros are people who make the most of their time on this earth, helping others, living the life they choose to live.

I would have to say my hero is: my sister.

she is autistic but she is funny, bubly and a wonderful, smart person.

Like doctorseagull, I think the idea of heroes needs to be taken with a grain of salt. No one is without flaws, however several people amaze the heck out of me.

First and foremost is my sweetie. She works with kids and does an incredible job, one I know I couldn't do even on my best day.

My Grandma is another. She lived in an era of very many changes: social, technological, and physical. She nearly always had an open mind. She also was the glue that kept our family, well, a family.

Grant-Lee Phillips is a hero of sorts as well. He is a singer-songwriter I really admire. His art just comes across as being sincere, honest, and void of trendy gimmicks. I wish I had his skills.

Finally, I was exposed to this man by a sports talk radio show. His name is Jim MacLaren and his story is beyond amazing. Look him up.
