We are looking for answers to some hard questions as we dig deep inside and explore our own core values and how that guides not just our own lives but the very world that we live in. These questions will be asked to a group of high school students but we would also like to hear from the world at large. While we hope to keep this forum wide open we do reserve the right to delete responses that we find to be offensive or combative in nature. Thank you for participating with us.

As long as the beliefs don't harm anyone, I think you should be tolerant..But that's a perfect world, Right?
Good Question!
Tolerance of other peoples' values; cultural, religious, sexual, ideological - IMO, is necessary. I think, even if someone's belief or practice harms themself, that belief should be respected.
Any belief that causes harm to others is definably erroneous, we are free to make choices for ourselves - people who practice harmful beliefs need help, or need to go elsewhere. Tolerance of error can be helpful; tolerance of harmful behavior is enabling, and dangerous.
Without the differences, life would be boring and intolerable. the differences are a balance. a way to keep our world in check. Values are different for everyone. and should be respected as such. And belief's dont harm people, people harm people.
And i think that just because you listen to someones description of thier values, that doesnt mean your are agreeing, or condoning them. It just means you have met someone with a different opinion of the world.
Personally & for the most part, I am able to accept other's values so long as they don't try to impose them upon me or anyone else. I may think they stink, but I don't have to live with them~ the values or, hopefully, the people.
There are things which I think are wrong- female circumcision, for example, I think is cruel male dominated genital mutulation. I would take a stand to advocate for an innocent if I were asked to & or in a position to do so.
