Question of the Day: Day 325

What does the word "responsibility" mean to you? Are you a very responsible person? Why or why not?

In my book, responsibility means:

¤ being in-charge of one's own life,
¤ dependability that when one is given a task, others can rest assured that it will be done, and
¤ holding ourselves accountable, liable, and answerable for our own actions,

that at the end of the day, for the choices that one has made, he or she alone deserves credit for the good ones, and blame for the bad.

Based on my definition of responsiblity, I consider myself a responsible person.

I think responsibilty is supremely important, and an area where we are getting steadily worse. Instead of accepting that actions have repurcussions, many today believe they are victims, and someone else must pay - be it taxpayers, corporations, or the defendent in small claims court. The government is partly to blame, as politicians promise more handouts with the hope of getting (or staying) elected.

It is the opposite of feeling a sense of entitlement, & of blame. It's about taking ownership for you choices and behaviors.
