Question of the Day: Day 285

Do you think that the current penal system (laws, police, courts, prisons) is effective at reducing crime in your area? If you were asked to design a new system or fix the current one, what suggestions would you make?

I am a supporter of the digital pillory. Convicted criminals should be made public examples - their pictures displayed for family, friends, and cohorts to appreciated - BUSTED!

There is some evidence that displaying the faces of 'wanted' criminals in local movie theatres embarrassed the families so badly that the criminals turned themselves in to alleviate the public scrutiny.

I say make it all public - make it embarrassing to live like a gangsta - take the glamour away from crime - speak out about it, show it off for what it is; ugly, stupid, crime.

It depends on what sort of crime "we" are talking about. I've worked with some clents sent to our program as part of the "prison diversion" program... later found to be criminally insane & sent on to lock-down facilities.
There are far to many PSRB criminals in psyciatric hospitals.

I think that reasonable healthy minded people generally are detered.. but there are far too many mentally unhealthy people walking the streets. NOTHING will deter some people.
