Question of the Day: Day 276

Do you think that anyone should be allowed to have children (regardless of criminal history or past abuses) or do you think that people should have to meet some guidelines in order to be parents?

The byline "Stupid people shouldn't breed.", though elitist and pithy, and true, & all...

But, who decides who's too "stupid" to breed? Who defines "stupid"?

Hitler tried that, and killed 3 million "stupid" jews, because they were genetically inferior (even though Adolph carried those same genes about in his khakis.) In case anyone missed the Holocaust, it didn't work - it didn't work so well that the global consciousness toward genocide is pretty quick to take note and make noise - governments aren't so quick to actually respond, unfortunately.

Mao imposed fertility limitations for the sake of numbers, rather than for any goal so 'noble' as social engineering, and it didn't work, either.

The point is, you cannot stop people from breeding, other than by using heinous, and highly revolting methods, such as Compulsory Sterilization, which has been rendered unconscionable by all governments.

Although the people who cause trouble tend to create progeny, there is a reason for everyone to exist - IMO, trying to force them not to exist will never solve anything.

It wouldn't hurt to require expecting parents to take child development &/or parenting classes.
