How is hope different from a wish? What do you hope for?

When one makes a wish, it is generally with a certain amount of excitement & wonder at the mere possibility of the thing wished for actually occurring. Often times associated with a special, or happy occassion.

Whereas when one hopes for a thing to happen or not happen, it is often with a certain amount of concern or reasonable doubt in regard to a past, or future occurance; I hope he didn't..., I sure do hope so..., or God, I hope not..., for examples. People seldom- if ever wish NOT.
