Question of the Day: Day 267

Is competition healthy or damaging? Which is more important, the individual (western) or the team (eastern) or does it not really matter in the long run?

Overall, I think that competition does have its place; spelling bees, base~ball, ice hockey, etc. where there are obvious clear cut criteria & "scores".

However, I also think that in many arenas it is a bogus concept. Think of Battles of the Bands, Figure Skating Competitions, Miss Teen or America Competitions, Body Building, & the like. In such competitions, it is more difficult to be "clear cut" in know/understand/judging the criteria for choosing the "winners".
That is to say that they appear to be, often times, based on preference.. thus, subjective.

When I think of politicians... I think of how "low" SOME of stooped.
Personal attacks directed toward one another... ouch.

In the employment arena, one may get in the door~ hired, based on a degree, with no prior experience & prove not to have a clue, other than text~book knowledge; most of "us" can use reference books to find that information. There are some qualities which I believe are innate... & OF COURSE, it depends on the field. The best hair dresser I've ever had do my hair, has absolutely no schooling in cosmotology AND she can french braid, do corn rolls, cut & style like nobody's business. She does this from her home by word of mouth & she just has the gift.. a knack for hairdressing.

I'll close with this~ there are many areas in life (organizations, raising & education children, running a small business, etc.) where team-effort is important. Where everyone contributes based on their individual talents & abilities.

"United we stand..
Divided we fall."
