Question of the Day: Day 312

If you were terminally ill and you found out that the end would be excruciatingly painful, would you take steps to end your life? Why or why not?

I think so, though one can never be sure until it happens to them. Some people casually say that they wouldn't want to go on living if they couldn't (fill in the blank) anymore, but faced with the situation realize there is still reason to live. That said, if I found myself with no reasonable hope of recovery and in terrible pain I can't imagine why I would want to prolong the inevitable.

No. I'm a fighter, not a quitter. I'd cherish life to the last breath that I take.

I honestly don't know the answer to this question. While I understand mercy killings/deaths, I believe that we are not to know or determine the day or hour of our death.

This brings to mind how my father suffered before he passed on. I know that there were days when he simply wished it were over; I also remember him making reference to the commandment "Thou shall not kill".

Guess if I chose to do that, I'd say a quiet prayer for forgiveness before hand. I really do hope to pass over quickly & peacefully... in my sleep.
